I can identify with that! In my case, the geriatric cat has stopped being so picky but the other sesmi-feral cats who come around pick and choose and it is one day yes, the next day no!

Oh my gosh, I have several geriatric cats between the ages of 14 to 18yrs. All their lives they have been raw fed and now in old age they refuse to eat the raw food and have become very picky eaters, it’s such a challenge. I need to change the food regularly so they eat enough to support their weight. One day they like the food the next day no, then they like it again and so it goes. I also tried cooking the raw food, modifying the ingredients to make it more suitable to their physical needs but they are addicted to the canned food now 😫

I enjoy ur animal sharing with us and especially ur enlightened attitude and deep respect for our non-human animal companions! Don't know if u know but Commercial cat foods ESPECIALLY all kibble is sprayed multiple times with what in the pet food industry call "kitty crack" bcuz it is purposely addictive. It took me about 1.5 yrs to slowly wean my 14 yr old calico off of it and onto the best canned cat food I could find that she would eat - which is still crap bcuz they all are mostly crap, too much ash...VERY POOR QUALITY ingredients pumped with cat-addictive, harmful additives. BUT they do contain a LOT more moisture which is CRUCIAL to long term health. BTW all this info is ez to find from the best integrative/Holistic (and also allopathically trained) vet and activist pet/animal person in the U.S. Karen Becker. Google her name and just about any companion animal question and she will have YouTube posts that are SO respectful of the animals.

Thank you for your comments, Clare. I know about the tactics the companies use on animal fod which is why I don't like to give them any dried food, but cats eat constantly throughout the day and when you are feeding them fresh food in a hot climate you can't leave food out so sometimes there is no option but to leave them some dried food. In the case of Mummy cat she just has to eat anything she will take in order to keep her weight up, but I minimise her exposure to dried food. I agree that Dr. Karen Becker is a great source of information and I have been following her for many years.

Sometimes you just have to do what is best for the animal under the circumstances, even though it is not always what you would prefer...
